Reflection On Mark 2:1-12


Searching and finding out Jesus and after being found at Capernaum, many people gathered to listen to Jesus. While he was preaching, a strange thing happened. A group of four men arrived carrying a paralytic man to Jesus. But they could not reach Jesus because of the crowd and tried to get in by an alternative way, opening the roof of the house and lowered down the paralytic man in front of Jesus. When paralytic was brought to Jesus for physical healing, Jesus healed him at first was his spiritual wound. ‘My son, your sins are forgiven.’ People of the times and even now some believed that every physical illness was caused by sin or related to spirituality or religion or ungodliness of their act or through their ancestors. For Jesus, spiritual healing was very important than the physical healing.
In fact, physical illness often gave people an opportunity to find God and save poor souls. The faith of the men who carried a paralytic was firm in finding way to Jesus even though it was difficult. By looking at their faith, Jesus forgave the sins of the paralytic man and cured. This is what the very essential necessity for everyone to keep up their faith, believing in Him and rely on Him totally. Many turn to God, only when they feel sick. Even at times something happens critical, the thoughts turn into the way of life led by the person. While on the go, the teachers of the law observed such things happening before them, automatically evil thoughts started to work resisting God’s plan to work out. Analyzing the view of these teachers of the law, Jesus condemns them saying, “the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” And said to the man to get up, pick up his mat and go home! All things happened dramatically, all a new things before the crowd stunned to amazement. They praised God saying ‘We have never seen anything like this!’
Forgiving sins was the very act touched by many. Where paralytic man sought God’s grace and allowed himself to obey the order given by Jesus to cure and to walk out. The expression of faith by the four men is taken up very much in the reading – a way to inspiration for the peoples. Above all it was a miracle.
Points to recollect:
Allow yourselves to receive God’s grace.
Build up your faith with the True Christian Values.
Always seek the Lord; be in search of HIM.

Reflection On Mark 8: 11-13

There is a proverb which states, “There are none so blind as those who won’t see.”  It means if your mind is set on one direction, it will be almost impossible to convince you of something different. Such is the frame of mind of the Pharisees concerning Jesus. When they approach Him and ask for a sign from heaven, their mind is already made up that Jesus is fake. Their intention is to expose Him as such and thus to undermine his authority and even hopefully, to completely discredit Him and have Him lose popular support. Reflection On Mark 1: 12-15

In the reading, we get two messages for today. Jesus’ forty days of wilderness and a call to repentance.  Jesus’ forty days in the wilderness paralleled Israel’s forty years in the wilderness. In both the instances, there is the apparent ‘absence of God.’ The presence of God emerges as a result of struggle and testing. Satan tests Jesus in the wilderness, whereas Israel tested God there. Our Lord’s suffering, hunger, loneliness and humiliation at the hands of His enemies were all for us. This very thought should make us feel gladly welcome the little bit of suffering and humiliation we are to take for ourselves in our routines. One may not be in strict fasting from food and drink, yet there are subtle ways of observing penance in our daily lives – a controlled temper, less uncharitable talks, a little help, etc. which will help to keep our unruly minds and bodies in cheek, while at the same time it will show that we are grateful to our loving Savior for all that He suffered for us.
