Reflection On John 4: 43-54

The Gospel today presents us with another dramatic story of the power of faith. It was by our Lord early in his ministry in His native surroundings of Northern Galilee. And it is the second miracle of Cana. Between 1st and 2miracle which took place in that area, Jesus had ministered briefly in Jerusalem and Samaria. Now, He has returned home with the growing reputation of a wonder worker. The royal official from Capernaum had heard of the healing powers of Jesus and was convinced that His abilities were authentic. So, precisely in order to see Jesus, he makes a 10mile trip to Cana and requests a cure for his very sick son. Jesus had just returned from Jerusalem and now the official asks Him to come north to Capernaum. Jesus does not go but rather introduces a new concept into the idea of miracle working. He says that it is not necessary for Him to be physically present to affect the cure, and promises to perform a long- distance miracle. The officials’ faith is strong enough to accept the verbal promise made to him and returns home to find his son completely cured. It had occurred at 1:00 P.M., the very hour when Jesus had spoken to him. Today we might take the occasion of this Gospel to offer a sincere prayer that someone we know might be healed. We might even offer our prayer at 1:00 P.M. in memory of this second Cana miracle.
A sign made, a word spoken –“Your sin will live” and we have a absolute guarantee that Jesus has laid His hand on us; His creative, restoring hand bringing us to fullness of life. The Centurion did not want to see the healing to believe in Jesus’ words. Those who really seek the truth, love the Master will recognize it when it is presented to them. Open your heart to the presence of Jesus, open your eyes to see the works of Jesus, open your ears to hear the words of Jesus... Jesus works miracle in your life, you believe it or not!
Questions to ponder:
Do we believe in Jesus? Or believe in His miracles?
Do we faith in Him? Or we grumble?
Each work is miraculous. Do you agree?
