Reflection On Mathew 21: 33-43, 45-46
The parable of the tenants was a shocking attack for the
Jews who considered themselves the natural heirs of the kingdom, the stewards
of God’s creation. Jesus sharply attacks their religious complacency and brings
open the failure if their stewardship and the betrayal of their trust.
Stewardship is absolutely God’s gift; those entrusted with it cannot in any
manner make any sort of distortion. A Christian is called to be an outstanding
example of the gift of stewardship. He has to manifest it in every walk of his
life. If we have failed in our responsibility here is yet another calling to
mend our ways to work against the fatal decay of the sense of stewardship and
responsibility and thus earn the trust and confidence of God.
God did everything for His people. But they failed in their
duties towards Him. Worse, they rejected, persecuted and even killed the
messengers God sent from time to time. Finally they were plotting to kill you
Lord, God’s only son and our Savior. The story of God’s people repeats itself
in my personal life as well. There are times when I fail to assume the
responsibilities God entrusts me with. In spite of Fatherly love and care with
which He surrounded me I have failed Him. Many a time I have even rebelled
against His will. Father, your vineyard will bear fruit even if the ones you
had first entrusted it with have failed. Thank you, Lord, I too belong to your
new people to whom you entrust your vineyard today.
Questions to
ponder:
Are we
faithful servants of God?
Are we just
or unjust?
What do you opt for God’s blessings? Or run away from Him?
